I am Takafumi Ohashi. Call me Taka.
Born in 1987 in Shizuoka Prefecture. After graduating from a university in Tokyo, I worked as a office worker for five years before moving to Ami Town, Ibaraki Prefecture in March 2018. In Ibaraki, I grew vegetables and worked as a housekeeping. From the summer of 2022, I was running a natural food store in Inashiki City for one year (now closed).
Why I promote the appeal of vegetable growing.
A mustard seed, smaller than a rice seed, germinates and grows bigger than me in six months, blooms beautiful yellow flowers, and produces many seeds. In the meantime, we can enjoy the leaves and buds, and admire the flowers while being surrounded by their sweet fragrance. Nature gives us flavorful food, beautiful sights, and seeds for the next generation. Through vegetable cultivation, I have come to realize the greatness of nature, and I decided to spread the appeal of vegetable cultivation in order to share this knowledge.
"I want you to look at what's nearby."
What I want to convey most is to pay attention to what is close to us. Flavorful foods and beautiful natural scenery are all around us. For example, nature produces foods that are appropriate for the season. In spring, slightly bitter butterbur and rape blossoms sprout, in summer, fresh cucumbers and watermelons bear fruit, in autumn, sweet rice and sweet potatoes are harvested, and in winter, nutritious carrots and radishes grow. Foods that are in season provide us with the satisfaction of nutrition and deliciousness. Also, plants bloom beautiful flowers at different times to delight us. Therefore, I believe that we can be fulfilled even with things that are close to us. Although rural areas are a bit far from the city, I would be happy if people could empathize with the idea that paying attention to the foods that are available in the suburbs or local areas, cooking them creatively, and feeling grateful for them could lead to healthier and more peaceful lives.
